Big babies… big deal? Or not? I am aware that the risk of shoulder dystocia increases with LGA (large for gestational age) babies. But most of these are handled successfully without long term consequences. Induction reduces that risk but doesn’t eliminate it (and imo causes more issues if the baby is truly big & isn’t engaged in the pelvis) And we cannot dismiss all the women who successfully birth big babies without even tearing. It’s a spectrum and should not be a one-size-fits-all protocol. W
