I often get asked why I stand so far back and zoom in rather than stepping closer with a wider lens. Here’s why. When you move in close on a wider lens, facial features can start to look slightly exaggerated, and you often see more of the background creeping into the edges of the frame. Step back, zoom in, and everything changes. Features look more flattering, the background becomes more compressed, and the whole image feels cleaner. As a bonus, it also means you’re not right in someone’s person
