Flying-foxes often get themselves into sticky situations and Ferdinand found himself in trouble when he attempted to belly dip in a swimming pool to get himself a drink. This is not an uncommon scenario but backyard pools are generally not long enough for the bat to glide in, belly dip and pull up. Poor Ferdinand suffered a double whammy as the pool had a cover over it and we think he skidded on the pool cover before slamming into the pool fence.
