August 6th is apparently National Tree Day and this day gives us an excuse to print something a little different from what we’re used to in our print shop exhibit. We often print historic woodcuts, electrotypes, and halftones, but we haven’t really highlighted the material a lot of print makers use today: linoleum. Much like making a woodcut, an artist carves a design in a linoleum sheet to make a relief surface. This lino cut was mounted on a block of wood to make it type high. We wish we knew
